Are you gaining body-fat or muscle? ⁣

Guys come to me a lot when they are trying to gain muscle that have become so focused with scale weight.⁣

“I want to hit 75kg” and they end up eating rubbish to get to that goal weight and now thanks to that they have started to get chunky and gained a lot of weight leading to them hating the way they look. This is known as gaining fat and not muscle. ⁣

Yes a small amount of body-fat will be added in a gaining phase this is only natural but we can manage this, if a ‘bulk’ is done right. I hate when people think just cause there on a ‘bulk’ that the Chinese they are having 3 times a week doesn’t matter cause they are ‘bulking’. Well it does. You are just adding body-fat to your frame not muscle.⁣

If you continue to do this over a period of time you will get to the point where the majority of weight you are gaining is just body-fat. NOT Muscle! ⁣


When looking to add muscle slowly drive your body weight up, if it is going up too quick, you can taper things back or implement a mini cut. Put yourself in a small surplus in an around 10- 15%. A gaining phase is not an excuse to get 3 takeaways a week and eat whatever you fancy just because you are chasing a number on the scales. ⁣
